Compare twelve Korean destinations by what you want to do—and what it takes to move between the station, your room and your day out.
Count usable days, not pins on a map
A night in a city is not automatically a full day there. Arrival, a hotel change and the onward journey each take part of the trip. Start by putting your arrival and departure commitments on a calendar. Then decide how many genuinely usable mornings and evenings remain.
For a short first visit, our preference is to make one comfortable base work well before adding another. If you have several nights and a clear second interest, compare a two-base trip. Do not add a new city simply because a fast train exists; include the station transfer and check-in as well.
As a planning exercise, imagine two versions of the same trip. In the first, you keep your room and visit a nearby district. In the second, you pack, check out and move. Choose the second only when the new experience is worth the extra transition to you.

The comparisons describe a base for part of a trip. “Jeju” covers an island rather than one compact sightseeing district; “Seoul” covers a very large city. Neither name tells you the distance between two specific stops.
Make transport part of the choice
If you want to avoid domestic flights: compare mainland bases and the actual rail or bus connections between them. Jeju needs a separate island journey; it should not appear in a plan that assumes every transfer is a mainland train ride. Our finder excludes it when you choose mainland-only travel.
If you prefer public transport: look at the last part of each journey, not just the intercity service. A station can be a convenient gateway while still being some distance from the streets or scenery you came to see. Keep your first day geographically compact.
If occasional taxis are acceptable: decide which difficult local connection a taxi would solve. This is more useful than assuming taxis make every itinerary easy. Check the destination address, local availability and your own budget.
Use the operator to check fares, departure dates and ticket conditions. A search result showing a train route is not a reservation. Do not build a non-refundable sequence around a journey you have not confirmed.
Three ways to narrow the list
A first trip with limited nights
Start by comparing Seoul as one base with a Seoul-plus-one-city plan. List the experience the second place would add: a port-city setting in Busan, a heritage focus in Gyeongju, or a food-and-old-streets day in Jeonju. Keep the transfer only if you would otherwise miss something important to you.
A coastal trip without a rental car
Compare Busan and Gangneung, then choose the specific neighbourhood and local transport that fit your intended days. “By the sea” is not enough: a beach, market and station may be in different parts of the city. Favour one coherent local area over a long list of disconnected stops.
A return visit at a slower pace
Use one theme to organise the day: regional food, heritage streets, contemporary art or a waterfront evening. Consider Jeonju, Gyeongju, Gwangju or Yeosu against that theme. These are editorial examples, not a claim that each place is quiet, cheap or suitable for every traveller.
Compare the cost of the whole plan
A lower room price can be outweighed by extra transfers. Add accommodation, intercity travel, the local journey, luggage arrangements and the activities you actually want. Use prices for your dates and party size.

Food preferences also need a practical check. A destination known for seafood or regional dishes may appeal to you, but the finder does not verify allergens, religious dietary requirements or the menu of a particular restaurant.
How the finder helps
Eight questions compare your available time, transport preferences and interests. The output explains a match and its compromises. The scores are authored planning rules, not satisfaction statistics, live prices or proof that one city is objectively better.
Use the result as a shortlist. Read the trade-off, map a plausible day and check the onward connection. A second choice may work better once you put real transport and hotel details beside it.
